Number of usual residents
  • There has been a marginal decline in the average household size over the past ten years, from 2.8 people per household in 1996 to 2.7 people per household in 2006.
  • The proportion of one-person households has increased from 20.7 percent (256,569 households) in 1996 to 23.0 percent (328,299 households) in 2006.
  • As in the previous two censuses, households most commonly consisted of two people.
