2011 Census content development

The 2011 Census content development process began in June 2008 with a period of public consultation and concluded in December 2010 with the release of the forms and guide notes. This page provides details of the content development efforts.

Census forms

Before each census, we review the forms and guide notes from the previous census. We made minimal changes to the 2011 Census forms. The 2011 Census Form Design Report describes the improvements that have been made to the 2011 Census forms and guide notes.

Samples of the 2011 Census forms and guide notes are now available.

Census content

The 2011 Census Content Report outlines the decisions of the Government Statistician on the content to be included in the 2011 Census of Population and Dwellings.

Consultation on census content

The 2011 Census Content: Submissions Report (November 2008) presents a summary of public submissions received by Statistics New Zealand on proposed changes to content for the 2011 Census of Population and Dwellings.

Statistics New Zealand proposed several changes to census content for the 2011 Census that were not covered by other reviews. These are outlined in the following documents.

The aim of census consultation, which ended on 14 July 2008, was to assess the impact of proposed changes on users, and achieve the best possible design for those changes. The submissions we received helped us assess and prioritise the changes to census content for 2011.
