For people identifying with the Polish ethnic group living in New Zealand on 5 March 2013:

  • 35.7 years was the median age (half are younger and half are older than this age). This was lower than in 2006 (37.6 years).
  • 40.9 percent were male and 59.1 percent were female.

Number of ethnic groups

For people identifying with the Polish ethnic group living in New Zealand on 5 March 2013:

  • 55.5 percent said Polish was their only ethnicity.
  • 25.9 percent said they belonged to two ethnic groups and 18.4 percent said they belonged to three or more ethnic groups.
  • Those aged 65 years and over were more likely to state the Polish ethnic group as their only ethnicity than those aged under 15 years, at 83.6 percent and 14.8 percent, respectively.

Combinations of ethnic groups

In this section, the total number of people in the single and combined ethnic group categories (eg European, or European and Pacific peoples) equals the number of people who stated any ethnicity in the census. This is because we count each person's ethnicity or combination of ethnicities only once at the highest level of the ethnicity classification.

For people identifying with the Polish ethnic group living in New Zealand on 5 March 2013:

  • 79.9 percent were European only, while 19.7 percent were European and at least one other ethnic group.
