For people identifying with the Tuvaluan ethnic group living in New Zealand on 5 March 2013:

  • 46.6 percent (1,614 people) were born in New Zealand, up from 37.0 percent in 2006. This compares with 62.3 percent for the total Pacific Peoples ethnic group, and 74.8 percent for the total New Zealand population in 2013.

For the 1,851 people identifying with the Tuvaluan ethnic group who were born overseas and living in New Zealand on 5 March 2013:

  • 73.1 percent (1,353 people) were born in Tuvalu.
  • 18.4 percent had arrived in New Zealand less than five years ago, compared with 30.8 percent in 2006.
  • 13.7 percent had arrived in New Zealand 20 or more years ago.
