Annual Enterprise Survey – information releases

The Annual Enterprise Survey (AES) is New Zealand’s most comprehensive source of financial statistics. It provides annual information on the financial performance and financial position for industry and sector groups operating within New Zealand.

AES is an important source of data for GDP, as we use it to calculate detailed annual national accounts.

The AES contains a wide range of variables for:

  1. Income – includes sales of goods and services, interest, dividends and donations, government funding, grants and subsidies, and non-operating income
  2. Expenditure – includes interest and donations, indirect taxes, depreciation, salaries and wages paid, redundancy and severance, salaries and wages to self-employed commission agents, purchases and other operating expenses, and non-operating expenses
  3. Financial position information on total assets (current, other and fixed tangible assets), equity and liabilities (current and other)

AES data can be used to derive a range of financial ratios and profitability variables.

The AES data is also the basis of national accounting variables, such as value added, gross output, and gross fixed capital formation.

If the analysis you want is not in our published information, email info@stats.govt.nz to see how we can help.
