Business Operations Survey: 2016

Key facts

In 2016:

  • Almost all businesses in New Zealand used the internet.
  • More than one-third of businesses accessed the internet via a fibre-optic connection, compared with 22 percent in 2014.
  • Using the internet for sales orders was most common for information media and telecommunications businesses.
  • Just under half of all businesses responded to regulation (such as product regulation or workplace safety regulation) by raising the skill level of employees.
  • Significant time and resources were spent on workplace safety regulation by 71 percent of businesses.
  • Over the last financial year, 76 percent of businesses had vacancies, and 47 percent of these had hard-to-fill vacancies.

The annual Business Operations Survey asks questions on a range of topics, which include business operations, innovation, ICT usage, regulation, and skills and training.
