Overseas production of goods and services

As well as exporting from a New Zealand base, New Zealand businesses may elect to engage in the overseas production of goods or services. This may be done either solely or in combination with production in New Zealand. Tables 11 to 13 relate to this chapter.

Only 5 percent of businesses undertook the production of goods or services overseas, which may be of the following types:

  • majority owned overseas operations
  • minority owned overseas operations
  • overseas joint ventures
  • contract arrangements with other overseas businesses.

The types of operation used by those businesses with overseas production is summarised by region in table 5.01.
