National Accounts (Industry Production and Investment): Year ended March 2015

Key facts
  • Final industry benchmark data is now available up to 2014, and will be used to maintain the quality of quarterly GDP statistics.
  • This release includes a full, reconciled set of data on industry production and investment that shows structural economic change over time.
  • The total size of the economy in 2014 was $232 billion.
  • Service industries have increased their contribution to total GDP from 52 percent in 1972 to 65 percent in 2015. Over the same time period goods-producing industries decreased from a 35 percent contribution to 20 percent, and primary industries reduced from 12 percent to 6 percent.
  • Provisional data for 2015 provides an early view of industry production and has the economy at $242 billion.
