Food Price Index: March 2013

Key facts

In March 2013 compared with February 2013:

  • Food prices fell 1.3 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices fell 6.5 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices fell 0.9 percent.
  • Grocery food prices fell 0.8 percent
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 0.8 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.2 percent.

From March 2012 to March 2013:

  • Food prices decreased 0.4 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices increased 3.8 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices decreased 0.4 percent.
  • Grocery food prices decreased 2.6 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices decreased 0.5 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices increased 1.1 percent.
