Food Price Index: September 2013

Key facts

In September 2013 compared with August 2013:

  • Food prices showed no overall change.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices fell 4.3 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 0.9 percent.
  • Grocery food prices rose 0.9 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 0.1 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.8 percent.

From September 2012 to September 2013:

  • Food prices increased 1.2 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices decreased 0.3 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices increased 0.3 percent.
  • Grocery food prices increased 2.0 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices increased 1.9 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices increased 1.1 percent.
