Industry Productivity Statistics: 1978–2009

Highlights

From 2006–09, key movements in annual average labour productivity growth were: 
    • measured sector showed no growth 
    • finance and insurance up 3.8 percent 
    • communication services up 3.3 percent 
    • construction and manufacturing down 3.3 and 1.9 percent, respectively.

From 2006–09, key movements in annual average multifactor productivity (MFP) growth were: 
    • measured sector down 1.2 percent 
    • construction down 4.8 percent 
    • manufacturing down 3.4 percent 
    • communication services and finance and insurance up 2.8 and 1.8 percent, respectively.

From 1978–2009, communication services was the strongest performer in both labour productivity and MFP. Only accommodation, cafes, and restaurants declined in both productivity measures.
