Industry Productivity Statistics: 1978–2010

Key facts
In the March 2010 year, labour productivity for the measured sector grew 3.5 percent. Communication services and finance and insurance showed the highest labour productivity growth (up 12.4 percent and 7.0 percent, respectively).

From 2006–10, key movements in annual average labour productivity growth were:

  • measured sector up 0.7 percent
  • communication services up 5.4 percent
  • finance and insurance up 4.4 percent
  • construction and manufacturing down 2.1 and 0.9 percent, respectively.

From 2006–10, key movements in annual average multifactor productivity (MFP) growth were:

  • measured sector down 0.7 percent
  • construction and manufacturing down 3.7 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively.
  • finance and insurance and communication services up 2.2 and 3.7 percent, respectively.
