Please note: the data in this release is an economic representation of the activities of local government. This differs from the accounting representation shown in Local Authority Financial Statistics: Year ended June 2012.

In the year ended June 2012:

  • Local government revenue increased 6.1 percent and expenses increased 4.4 percent. 
  • The net operating balance was a surplus of $0.5 billion.
  • The net borrowing position was $0.6 billion, compared with $0.9 billion in 2011.
  • Total net worth was $99.0 billion.
  • Total assets increased 2.3 percent to $111.1 billion.
  • Total liabilities increased 14.0 percent to $12.1 billion.
