Linked Employer-Employee Data: December 2008 quarter

Highlights

This release focuses on labour market dynamics for New Zealand.

For the December 2008 year:

  • The number of filled jobs increased 0.5 percent to reach 1,852,730, the lowest annual growth for a December year in the Linked Employer-Employee Data (LEED) series, which began in June 1999.
  • Filled jobs in the private sector decreased 0.7 percent, while filled jobs in the public sector increased 5.5 percent.
  • Average quarterly earnings increased 5.7 percent to $12,600.

For the December 2008 quarter:

  • The number of filled jobs increased 1.6 percent.
  • The worker turnover rate was 14.7 percent, the lowest rate since the LEED series began.
