Highlights

This release focuses on labour market dynamics for New Zealand.

In the December 2007 year:

  • The number of filled jobs increased by 1.8 percent to reach 1,800,350.
  • Bay of Plenty had the largest percentage growth in filled jobs (3.3 percent) of all regions.
  • Filled job growth in the construction industry slowed to a 5.1 percent increase, down from increases of 6.8 and 12.6 percent in 2006 and 2005 respectively

 

  • Average mean quarterly earnings increased 4.8 percent to $11,170.
  • Males earned more on average than females across all age groups, industries, and regions.
  • Gisborne and Canterbury had the largest percentage growth in average mean quarterly earnings (5.3 percent).
