Embargoed until 10:45am  –  30 May 2017
Key facts

In April 2017, building consents were issued for 2,106 new dwellings:

  • 1,487 houses
  • 345 townhouses, flats, and units
  • 228 apartments
  • 46 retirement village units.

The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings consented fell 7.6 percent, partly due to the timing of Easter.

In the year ended April 2017, 30,371 new dwellings were consented – up 8.3 percent from the April 2016 year.

Graph, New dwellings consented, monthly, March 2010 to April 2017.

Including alterations, the value of building work consented in the April 2017 month was $1.3 billion, comprising $921 million of residential work and $411 million of non-residential work.
