Building Consents Issued: August 2012

Key facts

In August 2012:

  • 1,513 new dwellings were consented, including 140 apartments (66 were retirement village units).
  • The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings consented, including apartments, increased 1.9 percent. Excluding apartments, there was a 4.3 percent increase.
  • Earthquake-related consents identified in Canterbury totalled $47 million, including 52 new dwellings. 

In August 2012 compared with August 2011:

  • The number of new dwellings consented rose in the South Island, but fell in the North Island, largely due to changes in the number of apartments.
  • The value of residential building consents rose 13 percent, to $548 million. 
  • The value of non-residential building consents rose 24 percent, to $343 million.
