Building Consents Issued: August 2013

Key facts

In August 2013, building consents were issued for:

  • 1,760 new dwellings, including apartments
  • 127 apartments, including 10 retirement village units
  • 1,633 non-apartment dwellings.

The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings, excluding apartments, rose 0.8 percent from July 2013.

The trend for the number of new dwellings, excluding apartments, appears to be flattening, after increasing for over two years. The trend is now 64 percent higher than its most recent low point in March 2011.

The trend for the number of new dwellings, including apartments, is showing signs of easing. It is now 71 percent higher than its historic low point in March 2011.

The value of consented building work in August 2013 was $1,016 million – $678 million of residential work and $338 million of non-residential work.
