Building Consents Issued: December 2010

Highlights
  • The value of residential building consents fell 26 percent, to $368 million (the lowest value since early 2009).
  • The value of non-residential building consents fell 18 percent, to $332 million.
  • 994 new dwellings were authorised, including apartments, the lowest number issued in a December month since the series began in 1965.
  • 85 new apartments were authorised (only 12 were assisted-living apartments associated with retirement villages).
  • The seasonally adjusted number of new dwelling units authorised, excluding apartments, fell 11 percent, the sixth consecutive monthly fall.
