Building Consents Issued: February 2014

In February 2014, building consents were issued for:

  • 1,768 new dwellings, including apartments
  • 66 apartments, including 16 retirement village units
  • 1,702 non-apartment dwellings.

The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings, excluding apartments, rose 3.0 percent, following a fall of 1.1 percent in January.

The trend for new dwellings, excluding apartments, is at its highest level since December 2007, and is 85 percent higher than the most-recent low point in March 2011. However, it is still 21 percent below the series maximum in September 2003.

The unadjusted value of building work consented in February 2014 was $1,102 million. This consisted of $726 million of residential work and $376 million of non-residential work.
