Building Consents Issued: January 2015

Key facts

In January 2015, building consents were issued for:

  • 1,703 new dwellings, including apartments
  • 314 apartments, including 84 retirement village units
  • 1,389 non-apartment dwellings.

The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings consented decreased 3.8 percent in January. Excluding apartments, this number fell 7.5 percent.

The trend for the number of new dwellings consented, including apartments, is rising and is at its highest level since July 2007. Excluding apartments, the trend is flat.

The unadjusted value of building work consented in January 2015 was nearly $1 billion. This consisted of:

  • $645 million of residential work
  • $351 million of non-residential work.
