Building Consents Issued: October 2015

Key facts

In October 2015, building consents were issued for 2,349 new dwellings, comprising:

  • 1,732 houses
  • 244 apartments
  • 177 retirement village units
  • 196 townhouses, flats, and units.

The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings consented rose 5.1 percent in October, but was still down from the 20 percent surge in July. The trend is increasing, and is at its highest level since July 2004.

The actual value of building work consented in October 2015 was $1.4 billion. For October 2015 compared with October 2014:

  • residential work was up $21 million (2.4 percent) to $898 million
  • non-residential work was up $22 million (4.9 percent) to $479 million.
