Value of Building Work Put in Place: December 2015 quarter

Key facts

For the December 2015 quarter compared with the September 2015 quarter, after price changes and seasonal variations are removed:

  • Residential building activity rose 2.8 percent.
  • Non-residential building activity rose 2.3 percent.
  • Total building activity rose 2.5 percent.

The trend for all building work grew 1.8 percent, and is at its highest level since the series began in late 1989 – 2.8 percent higher than the earlier series peak in 2005.

In current prices, the actual value of all building work was $4.4 billion – $2.8 billion on residential buildings and $1.6 billion on non-residential buildings.

The regions with the highest total values were:

  • Auckland – $1.5 billion
  • Canterbury – $1.1 billion.
