Key facts
  • The total energy used in the primary sector increased 31 percent between 2011 and 2016.
  • Over 150 million litres of diesel was used by the fishing and forestry industries in 2016.
  • The agriculture industry used 1,846 million kilowatt hours of electricity in 2016 – a 47 percent increase from 2011.
  • In six out of 10 categories the fishing industry had either the highest or highest-equal percentage of businesses reporting having energy-saving initiatives in place.
