Retail Trade Survey: December 2008 quarter

Highlights

For the December 2008 quarter compared with the September 2008 quarter (on a seasonally adjusted basis):

  • Total retail sales values fell 1.1 percent ($179 million).
  • Total retail sales volumes fell 0.6 percent.
  • Core retail sales values rose 0.6 percent ($77 million).
  • Core retail sales volumes did not change.
  • Motor vehicle retailing values and volumes fell, 5.3 percent and 4.9 percent respectively.
  • Automotive fuel retailing values fell 8.2 percent and volumes rose 3.5 percent.
