Retail Trade Survey: July 2009

Highlights

For July 2009 compared with June 2009 (on a seasonally adjusted basis):

  • Total retail sales fell 0.5 percent ($25 million) and core retail sales fell 0.5 percent ($20 million).
  • Motor vehicle retailing had the largest increase, up 2.1 percent ($11 million), offset by automotive fuel retailing, with the largest decrease, down 2.9 percent ($15 million).
  • None of the core retailing industries moved up or down by more than $7 million.

The total retail sales trend has been increasing since February 2009, following a 13-month decline.
