Retail Trade Survey: March 2009 quarter

Highlights

For the March 2009 quarter compared with the December 2008 quarter (on a seasonally adjusted basis):

  • Total retail sales volumes fell 2.9 percent.
  • Total retail sales values fell 1.5 percent ($236 million).
  • Core retail sales volumes fell 1.2 percent.
  • Core retail sales values rose 0.3 percent ($41 million).
  • Motor vehicle retailing fell, volumes down 11.4 percent and values down 9.2 percent.
  • Supermarket and grocery stores rose, volumes up 1.9 percent and values up 3.3 percent.
