Tourism Satellite Account: 1995

What it's about

Tourism plays a significant and increasing role in the New Zealand economy. However, unlike "conventional" industries such as agriculture and manufacturing, tourism has not been explicitly measured in the official economic statistics until now. The Tourism Satellite Account 1995 goes some way towards filling that gap.

The Tourism Satellite Account is linked to, and consistent with, the existing New Zealand System of National Accounts. Satellite accounts involve the rearrangement of existing information found in the national accounts so that an area of particular economic or social importance can be analysed more closely.

This report details the Tourism Satellite Account methodology, which is in line with guidelines published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Tourism Organisation (WTO). The report also contains the experimental results of the pilot Tourism Satellite Account for 1995.
