Beer volume rises

The total volume of beer available for consumption rose 6.6 litres (2.4 percent) to 285.8 million litres in the year ended September 2013.

As a proportion of the total volume of alcoholic beverage available for consumption, beer fell from 81.6 percent in 1996 to 61.4 percent in 2013.

The volume of beer with an alcohol content of:

  • up to 2.50 percent increased 0.5 million litres (22.4 percent) to 2.8 million litres
  • 2.51 to 4.35 percent decreased 3.6 million litres (2.2 percent) to 155.3 million litres
  • 4.36 to 5.00 percent increased 11.2 million litres (10.8 percent) to 115.2 million litres
  • more than 5.00 percent decreased 1.5 million litres (10.8 percent) to 12.5 million litres.
