Wine volume rises

The total volume of wine available for consumption in the year ended September 2013 was 106 million litres, up 5.7 million litres (5.7 percent) compared with the previous year.

  • Table wine made from grapes increased 1.3 percent, to 91.5 million litres.
  • Table wine made from other fruits, vegetables, or other aromatic substances increased 49.5 percent, to 14.1 million litres. Cider is included in this category but its value cannot be separately identified.

Fortified wine (greater than 14 percent alcohol by volume) decreased 0.2 million litres (32.9 percent) to 0.4 million litres.

Wine contributed 22.8 percent of the total volume of alcoholic beverage available in 2013, up from 22.2 percent in the previous year.
