Background to the survey

The Screen Industry Survey 2007/08 collected information used to measure the size and nature of the New Zealand screen industry. The survey was sent to businesses involved in various aspects of the screen industry.

The objectives of the survey are to:

  • recognise the contribution that the screen industry makes to the economy
  • identify any impediments to growth
  • identify opportunities for sustainable growth within the industry.

The data gathered provides information for government and industry to measure and shape policies, and to plan, market, and develop the screen industry.

Revised data

Some of the tables in this publication include revised data for the 2006 and 2007 financial years. Revisions to data for these years were also published in the Screen Industry Survey: 2007/08 in May 2009. Incorrect weights to adjust for non-response had been applied to data for the 2006 and 2007 financial years, and this has now been corrected for all published tables.

Changes made to the weighting cell methodology for the 2008 financial year data have also been incorporated in the 2007 financial year data, which includes the implementation of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification 2006 (ANZSIC 06). See the 'Technical notes' for more information on the revisions. Because some of the changes are small in scale and may be within the bounds of random rounding, previously stated values may not have changed.
