Overseas Merchandise Trade: January 2014

Key facts

For January 2014 compared with January 2013:

  • Exports rose $729 million (22 percent) to $4.1 billion.
  • Milk powder, butter, and cheese led the increase in exports, up $605 million.
  • Imports rose $129 million (3.5 percent) to $3.8 billion.
  • Vehicles, parts, and accessories led the increase in imports, up $110 million.
  • There was a trade surplus of $306 million (7.5 percent of exports).
  • The trends for the values of exports and imports have been increasing in recent months.
