Overseas Merchandise Trade: May 2012

Key facts

For May 2012 compared with May 2011:

  • Exports were down $202 million (4.4 percent) to $4.4 billion.
  • Meat and edible offal recorded the largest decrease.
  • Imports were up $46 million (1.1 percent) to $4.1 billion.
  • Capital and consumption goods rose and intermediate goods fell.
  • There was a trade surplus of $301 million (6.8 percent of exports). 
  • The trend in exports has been falling since the recorded high in November 2011.
