Revision note: Household Economic Survey (28 November 2013)

In quality assurance checks of the Household Economic Survey 2012/13 data, a classification error was found in the housing and household utilities group. This affects data previously published in Household Economic Survey: Year ended 30 June 2007 and Household Economic Survey: Year ended June 2010. This error has now been corrected, and revised figures are included in Household Economic Survey: Year ended June 2013.

While total expenditure reported was correct, aggregates were not spread accurately across the following sub-codes:

New Zealand Household Expenditure Classification  Selected goods and services
04.2.02.0.6 Timber for property alterations, additions, and improvements
04.2.02.0.7 Concrete and clay for property alterations, additions, and improvements
04.2.02.0.8 Other materials for property alterations, additions, and improvements
04.2.03.0.0 Services for property alterations, additions, and improvements
 04.3.01.0.3 Hardware for property maintenance
04.3.01.0.5 Solvent products for property maintenance
 04.3.01.0.6 Timber for property maintenance
04.3.01.0.8 Other materials for for property maintenance
 04.3.02.0.0 Property maintenance services

Please note, methodological changes to weighting and imputation methods were also applied to the revised figures. Individual effects cannot be reported in isolation.

The largest change resulting from these revisions and affecting 2009/10 is that 04.3.02.0.0 'Property maintenance services' was overstated by approximately $840 million, and 04.2.03.0.0 'Services for property alterations, additions, and improvements' was understated by the same amount.

For further information on the revised figures please contact the Standard of Living team.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
