Indicator 16: safety

Discussion

People often associate their homes with comfort and security. The bulk of a family’s material wealth is likely to be either the home itself or the items placed within their home. Therefore, it is crucial for households to have a sense of safety and security within their own homes and the neighbourhood. Crime statistics are good indicators of safety and security since they look at the condition of the environment surrounding the home.

Crime statistics collected by the New Zealand Police and Statistics New Zealand indicate the level and types of criminal activities in different parts of New Zealand.
