International Travel and Migration: August 2010

Highlights

In August 2010 compared with August 2009:

  • Visitor arrivals (168,100) were up 4 percent.
  • There were more visitors from China (up 5,200) and Japan (up 2,300), but fewer from the United Kingdom (down 1,600).
  • New Zealand residents departed on 180,200 overseas trips, up 2 percent.
  • New Zealand residents departed on more trips to the United States (up 1,800), the United Kingdom (up 1,600), and the Cook Islands (up 1,400).

In August 2010:

  • Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 800 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
