International Travel and Migration: August 2016

Key facts

In August 2016 compared with August 2015:   

  • Visitor arrivals (221,200) were up 18,300. The biggest changes were in arrivals from: 
    • the United States (up 4,300)
    • Australia (up 3,200) 
    • Malaysia (up 1,600).
  • Overseas trips by New Zealand residents (235,200) were up 16,700. The biggest changes were in departures to:
    • Viet Nam (up 1,900)
    • Indonesia (up 1,800)
    • Cook Islands (up 1,800). 

In August 2016, seasonally adjusted figures showed a net gain of 5,600 migrants.
