International Travel and Migration: December 2012

Key facts

In December 2012 compared with December 2011:   

  • Visitor arrivals (364,000) were down 200. The biggest changes were in arrivals from:
    • China (up 2,300)
    • Japan (up 2,100) 
    • the United Kingdom (down 1,700)
    • Australia (down 2,100).
  • Overseas trips by New Zealand residents (216,800) were down 2,100. The biggest changes were in departures to:
    • Thailand (up 1,500)
    • Fiji (down 1,400)
    • Australia (down 5,500).

In December 2012:

  • Seasonally adjusted arrivals equalled departures (net migration of zero).
