International Travel and Migration: March 2012

Key facts

In March 2012 compared with March 2011:

  • Visitor arrivals (239,900) were up 24,400. The biggest changes were in arrivals from:
    • China (up 8,700) 
    • Australia (up 8,400) 
    • Malaysia (up 1,600)
    • Japan (up 1,400).
  • Overseas trips by New Zealand residents (153,000) were up 9,900. The biggest changes were in departures to:
    • the United Kingdom (up 2,100)
    • the United States (up 1,000)
    • Australia (up 900)
    • Thailand (up 800).

In March 2012:

  • Seasonally adjusted figures showed a net gain of 100 migrants.
