International Travel and Migration: September 2016

Key facts

In September 2016 compared with September 2015:   

  • Visitor arrivals (245,100) were up 28,100. The biggest changes were in arrivals from: 
    • Australia (up 9,100)
    • United States (up 3,700)
    • Malaysia (up 2,400) 
    • Korea (up 2,100).
  • Overseas trips by New Zealand residents (267,900) were up 32,300. The biggest changes were in departures to:
    • Australia (up 10,200)
    • United States (up 3,400)
    • Cook Islands (up 2,500)
    • United Kingdom (down 2,600). 

In September 2016, seasonally adjusted figures showed a net gain of 6,300 migrants.
