Subnational ethnic population projections

For detailed projections see:

This section is a summary of the 2013-base projections for the following broad and overlapping ethnic populations in regional council areas (regions), territorial authority areas, and Auckland local board areas:

The projections, released in September 2015, are consistent with the 2013-base national ethnic population projections released in May 2015. The analysis is based on the medium series for each ethnic population projection and the medium series for the 2013-base subnational population projections released in February 2015.

Note that these ethnic populations are not mutually exclusive because people can and do identify with more than one ethnicity. People who identify with more than one ethnicity are included in each ethnic population.

The projections are for selected geographical areas, broad ethnic groups, and a period of 25 years because of the small size of many subnational ethnic populations and the uncertain nature of ethnic and subnational population projections. The projected changes in ethnic population size and structure should be interpreted with caution.
