Indicators used in 2002

The indicators we selected for this report, and the way we grouped them, differ from Monitoring Progress Towards a Sustainable New Zealand (Statistics NZ, 2002b).

Although we aimed to be consistent and use comparable indicators, we had to make changes due to the availability of new data sources and further work at Statistics NZ on defining the underlying measurement framework. For example, real gross domestic product (GDP) per person was included as a contextual indicator in 2002 but has not been included in this report. Instead, real gross national disposable income (RGNDI) per person has been used as it is considered to be a better indicator of sustainable development.

Table C7 lists the topics and indicators used in the report published in 2002, and notes whether the indicators have been used, or modified, in the current report, published in 2009.
