Satisfaction with work-life balance

The data in this indicator is no longer being updated.

Stats NZ is developing well-being indicators, Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand - Ngā Tūtohu Aotearoa, to track New Zealand’s progress. As the well-being indicators have similar aims to the NZ Progress Indicators and NZ Social Indicators, we are reviewing the future of these existing indicators.

Why is this important for social statistics?

People need balance between paid work and other aspects of their lives. People who don’t have a satisfactory work-life balance may suffer from stress or anxiety. Long working hours or non-standard working hours (such as night shifts) may compromise work-life balance.

This indicator measures the proportion of employed people who are ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with their work-life balance.
