International

The United Nations recommends that countries cover the topic ‘place of work’ in their censuses. The United Nations define ‘place of work’ as:

“…the location in which a currently employed person performed his or her job, and where a usually employed person performed the primary job used to determine his/her other economic characteristics such as occupation, industry, and status of employment.”

The United Nations also recommends categories (or a variation of) for work at home, no fixed place of work, and with a fixed place of work outside the home.
