Meeting longitudinal information needs: Recommendations for Statistics New Zealand

The purpose of this report is to give my recommendations on how Statistics NZ can best meet New Zealand’s longitudinal information needs. This work stems from a preliminary discussion paper Options for meeting longitudinal information needs: A preliminary investigation (Statistics NZ, 2014).

I also assess the feasibility of meeting these needs through the re-use of existing data from the census, surveys, and administrative sources.

This report reflects my judgment and opinions, and is presented for Statistics NZ and their data users to consider.

Philip Giles
