Labour Cost Survey (changes to salary and wage rates) – information for participants

Why are you carrying out this survey?

We carry out this survey to collect information on salary and wage rates. The information collected is compared with the previous quarter to establish the comparative change or movement in salary and wage rate over time. We use this to calculate the labour cost index.

Who takes part in the survey? How did you select me?

The target population for this survey is large. It includes all occupations in each industry in each sector of the New Zealand economy.

We select businesses that employ representative job positions form each sector of ownership and industry. You were selected because your business currently employs job positions which are selected to be included in the survey.

How long will I be in the survey for?

To accurately track the change in salary and wage rates, we need to survey the same participants each quarter.

Unfortunately, we can’t tell you exactly how long your business will be included in the survey sample for. This is because re-selection of the sample for any particular occupation varies according to how much change occurs within an industry, and the sector of ownership.

When do you carry out the survey?

The survey is carried out every quarter.

How can I complete the survey questionnaire?

You can complete the survey questionnaire by filling in either a paper or electronic (Excel) form.
