Housing Related Prices

These tables have been specifically put together to cover prices for housing items collected in the CPI. They are presented as a quarterly time series covering 1994 to 2004.

The Consumers Price Index (CPI) is a measure of the price change of goods and services purchased by private New Zealand households.

Often used as a measure of inflation, it covers prices for:

  • Food
  • Apparel
  • Transportation
  • Household operation
  • Housing
  • Tobacco and alcohol
  • Personal and health care
  • Recreation and education
  • Credit services

The CPI is produced quarterly from prices gathered in a range of surveys in 15 urban areas. Its base (=1000) is currently the June 1999 quarter.

See the downloadable file: CPI Tables for Housing Statistics.

The downloadable file is in Microsoft Excel 97 format(s). If you do not have access to Excel 97 or higher you may use the Excel file viewer to view, print and export the contents of this file.
